Palace of Versailles was a royal château built in a country village. From 1682-1789 the royal court resided here and it was considered the center of France’s political power until the French Revolution forced the royal family to return to the capital in Paris. After the arrest of Louis XVI the royal family’s possessions were auctioned off and other significant works were retained as the beginning of a planned museum collection.

The fate of the palace was uncertain and its use debated for many years, changing hands and purpose several times before becoming the tourist attraction it is now. Today the palace is a museum showplace. It’s no longer considered to be located in a country village since it became enclosed within the Paris suburbs.

The Gardens of Versailles cover 800 hectacres (nearly 2000 acres!) of land and features not only beautifully landscaped lawns, flowers, and sculptured fountains but also much of the elaborate hydraulics systems installed during the expansion of the gardens started during the Ancien Régime are still in use. Visit from April until October and the gardens may also feature a musical fountain show during your tour.

Together the Palace and Gardens of Versailles have been on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1979. It is 1 of 39 which are listed in France and makes this beautiful place a must-see destination of your trip to Paris with your family and a place your kids will never forget.

On our private tour your English-speaking guide will share with you the stories of the life in the royal court as he or she takes you through the ballrooms, salons, stunning corridors, royal apartments, and the exquisite gardens considered one of the finest examples anywhere of French Garden design. Picture the look on your little prince or princess’ face when they marvel at the luxuries of walking through a real palace and imaging the parties once hosted here. Cristiana and Roberta were excellent tour guides for our Roman holiday. As a business owner, taking off time is difficult.

After scraping and saving for a year, we decided to take our kids to Paris for some fun. We visited Versailles on day one of our vacation, to see the gardens and the outstanding Palace.

Touring Paris at night was a great experience; the city glowed like a diamond. The music, the food and the laughter was a refreshing experience. The food was great, loved the French cakes and Ice cream.

We explored the city for 5 days. We had a great time; the travel was easy and affordable. I would not change the experience for anything in the world. After five days, I felt refreshed and ready to go back to work.

I hope that you will take the chance to go out and experience Paris for yourself, I am glad that I did.
